Well I have finally had some spare time. So what does one do with some spare time.. hack and research roms like Sonic has had done so often!

Here are the discoveries that are odd files in the roms I have made so far...

ASCII Text within the roms

This is the easiest info you can get from genesis/maga drive rom in binary (bin) format, because it can be seen in a simple text program like notepad! However I used a hex editor to get offsets for the text.

This is odd cos it mentions a Focus ver I am not sure if this is left over from a pre release made for a show like E3 or if it is some code effect not noted yet. This text seems to be from the rolling demo section which has no height bonus shown either!

Note: the intro story was only in the UE ver as was the text Dad! and The End.
The J ver only had Congratulations!

I have no idea where this is used. Possibly a prototype left over from before Demo Play with the high score.

This is obvious you might think.. except this is not the same text used ingame!
That appears later in the rom.

This is the Options screen text. But there is text for a Player counter. This is a option to set the starting lives for Ristar but It was never used.
This is however able to do in the released protos. Also note Catch.. In the final US/PAL ver it says "Grab" instead.

This seems simple enough.. except I discovered the artwork for each level title card is seperate and not changeable through the text, this is proven by the fact the US ver doesn't have one for its names, but this is in it still!

I will not list the offsets for this pic as there are lots of different offsets.

Here we have a comparrison pic of the odd tiles found in the compressed art! They are proto treasures!

unknown enemy, It is unknown if it is like the Sonic Catterkiller and was made of segments or if it is a bomb type enemy who curls into a ball. Due to the last two segments it has been nicknamed The Tommy Cooper after the great magician/comedian who had a trademark fez.

Unknown enemy. I do not know what this is but it looks kinda like a spider, and a mine.. so its called the Spider Mine.

Unknown enemy. This enemy is interesting. initially I loaded a brown pallette and thought it was mr. hanky the christmas poo!
Then had this pallette and though it looked better. It seems to be some kinda grub or worm.
It is possible it was intended to live in the coocoons on 1-2 but it is unknown.

An odd vase. I do not know if it is the proto treasure for the Magical Lamp or not.

an odd crystal. I do not know if this is the proto treasure for the Snow Crystal.
*Update*
This crystal was discovered in the new protos released, It was present on all the treasure rounds as part of the background.

This is from an unused title card for round 7.. The round has no title card in the MD/Gen ver but does in the GG ver which has always seemed odd.. it now is apparrent it was in all versions! Also the name is Castle Greedy and not Greedy's Space City like the manual wants us to believe.

There is lots of other unknown tile sets if anyone can help please do!
